Welcoming Message from the Principal

Michelle van Zyl
Principal
Thank you for visiting our website.
I hope that by learning more about us you become part of our family, be it through your child joining us or as you supporting us through our endeavours. Perhaps we can also teach you more about our school, staff and most importantly, learners.
Autism is part of our daily life at Curamus School. We speak, think and dream Autism.
Many people do not live our experiences but want to learn more. We welcome this as each person who becomes more informed is a step in the right direction for all children on the Autism Spectrum.
Francis Bacon said: “We rise to great heights by a winding staircase of a small steps”. It is our privilege as the staff of this school to take small steps every day in our dream of giving every child a quality education and as much independence as possible. We are striving to create a safe space for the child on the Autism Spectrum to learn and communicate to the best of their ability.
We pride ourselves in upholding the vision and mission of the Gauteng Department of Education as well as our own for every child.
I look forward to your journey with us.

3-9 years
10-14 years
15-18 years
Within the age groups, learners are classified according to 3 levels of support and ability to participate:
Level 1) awareness
Level 2) transitional
Level 3) Interactive
The subjects completed in the LSPID are:
– Language and communication
– Maths
– Life-skills
Learners participate in a kinaesthetic programme 3 times a week which focuses on learning concepts through movement, sensory input and play.
Learners receive a formal report at the end of term 2 and 4 and a photo progress report of activities done at the end of term 1 and 3. Learners do not pass or fail but progress according to their age. Learners receive a certificate of completion of the programme when they exit the school at 18 years.
